Abstract:Ulobal exploration of oil and gas in continentalbasins has already indicated that contemporaneousfaults have significant effects on the distribution ofdepositional body. The research of oil and gas ex-ploration shows that Yitong Basin has been impliedto be a strike-slip fault basin. Basin formation andevolution are controlled by the dextral rotation andstrike-slip movement of the boundary fault in thenorthwestern margin of the Eocene.Strike-slipmovement is bound to derive a series of contempo-raneous fault in the basin. From the aspect ofstrike-slip fault active time in the northwest edge, distribution and activity time of the secondaryfaults derived from strike-slip movement, this pa-per determines the contemporaneous fault and alsoanalyzes its controlling action on the deposition.Three conclusions made are stated below.①Thestrike-slip movement of boundary faults controlsthe distribution and active time of secondary tensilefaults in the basin.②The contemporaneous faultlocated in Wanchang slope area has a leading con-trol on the depositional bodies which are depositedalong clamp zone between the contemporaneousfaults.③The contemporaneous faults located inLiangjia district control the distribution of deposi-tional bodies.Depositional bodies basically do notcross over the upthrow of contemporaneous faultsin the deposition process.
