Abstract:As an emerging branch of science, seismic sedimentology is widely applied in seismic-geology comprehensive research around the world. Seismic sedimentology involves three key approaches: A. Estimating formation lithology through 90o-phasing conversion, B. Implementing seismic events isochronism analysis through stratal slicing, C. Making seismic geological interpretation results more meaningful by frequency decomposition. With these three techniques, better results can be obtained in areas such as marine and fluvial sedimentations with smooth change in vertical direction. However, they usually fail in continental sedimentary strata with fast change in both horizontal and vertical directions. In review of seismic sedimentology applications in continental deposition, we discuss its shortcomings, and propose some solutions. These specific approaches are applied in Dongying delta, and good results are obtained.
