Abstract:The ultrasonic test of multitudinous loose sandstone in ordinary atmospheric temperature and pressure leads to the conclusions: ·that both compressional wave and shear wave have quite low velocity. ·that compressional wave goes faster in water-saturated case than in air-saturated case. ·that shear wave velocity(vs) shows little slower in water-saturated condition than in air-saturated condition. ·that the ratio of compressional wave velocity to shear wave velocity(vp/vs> is higher in water-saturated condition than in air-saturated condition. ·that compressional and shear wave velocities are linear with porosity.
