Abstract:The continuation and conversion of potential field in frequency domain have been widely applied to gravimetric or magnetic field processing;however,oscillation problem existing in potential field downward continuation and high-order derivative computation has not been solved desirably yet. At present,one quite common opinion is that shallow anomaly source serves as a sole factor resulting in oscillation of downward continuation. As a matter of fact,rather big oscillation still occurs in the downward continuation of deep source field after we finish separation processing of the original potential field. To cope with this trouble,we analyse some particularities of downward continuation of potential field. After the analysis,we deem that the root cause for this trouble is that the truncation error of Fourier transform of a finite length profile results in abasing noise which is similar to shallow source anomaly. Thus,serial matched filters are introduced to achieve downward continuation of potential field. As a result,the high-fidelity downward continued potential field can be obtained which has no abasing and retains all effective signals.
