Abstract:Geologically, channels in plain smoothed their sediments by frequently swinging or changing course. Meanders and braided channels continuously removed and ploughed their sediments because sedimentary basin subsided very slowly. After several ten-thousand years, these sediments became very complex mixture. As a result,we can hardly find a whole channel way,and we don't know clearly where central bar and oxbow lake exist. Thus,a whole land-facies channel way can hardly be discovered by seismic exploration;however, under favourable condition, seismic exploration can discover roughly where channel sands are abundant. Only turbidite channel sands in ocean and deep lake can be found easily by seismic exploration. The interpretation pitfalls are pointed out by analysing some interpretation examples of channel sands at home and abroad. It is very important that in 3-D seismic slice analysis, amplitude difference resulting from miscorrelation of seismic horizon can not be considered as the existence indication of channel sands.
