Abstract:The marine-facies carbonate rock area in South China has good hydrocarbon potential. However,conventional hydrocarbon exploration methods failed due to the bad natural conditions. During the recent 3 years,electromagnetic methods(particularly magnetotelluric method) have been tested in this kind of area. The resalts indicate that the deep formations are mostly flat,although the surface natural conditions are very complicated in the project area. Meanwhile,some hydrocarbon potential structures with sealing conditions have been found in the area.Considering the special difficult circumstances in South China,the paper technically expounds the necessities of improving MT method and applying some new methods and technologies which would be perfected on the basis of scientific research. Then there will be a complete technique system that favours hydrocarbon exploration in marine-facies carbonate rock area in South China.
