Abstract:A new method for estimating Poisson's ratio of a reservoir is presented. The method estimates Poisson's ratio by making prestack inversion of seismic data with the use of Zoeppritz's approximate equation of P-wave reflection coefficient. The result of the experiment made over a known gas field in South China Sea demonstrates that this method can be used to predicate fluid variation in reservoir and the gas reservoir boundary. The effectiveness of this method depends on (1) the CDP gather that has preserved amplitudes, high signal-to-noise ratio and high resolution; (2) accurate velocity data; (3) accurate incident angle and transmission angle; and (4) the way that we make successive multi-point prediction and lateral comprehensive analysis so as to use the optimum fitting result as estimated value at each point.
