Abstract:The major fault which created a half graben-like basin controls the features of both structural geology and petroleum geology at the steep side of the half graben-like basin. The sedimentation and subsidence centers of the half graben-like basin are all close to the major fault, near which rich oil source was generated. The nonuniform growth of the major fault resulted in various traps at the steep side, thus forming abudant hydrocarbon resource, or more correctly multitudinous oil accumulations at the steep side. So the steep side is an important place for oil exploration.
