Abstract:All the geophysicists know wave propagation character; however,not every one knows the characteristic of seismic reflection and the essential difference between reflection and noise, How on earth is there ceived seismic reflection when the subsurface geological structure is very complicated and frequent lithologic variation occurs It is very important, of course, to answer this question.Thetheoretical model of diffraction wave(the basic element of sei-smic signal) exhibits that the reflections from complicated geologicalstructure and complicated lithology zone show gradual waveform change on successive traces, which, however, can not be seen from surface noise and chaotic reflections caused by static correction, It has been found that the chaos of seismic reflections are caused by noise and com-plicated surface layer conditions instead of the complication of sub-surface geological structure, The signal to noise ratio and the influen-ce degree due to static correction can be roughly estimated by making correlations of adjacent traces, The "earthworm phenomenon" on seis-mic records is also researched into.
