Abstract:A simultaneous detection of P wave and P-SV converted wave is made using constant offset on a 2-D organic glass model consisting of anticline, fault and horizontal reflector, Not only quite clear P-sv waves are recorded but also converted diffractions are obtained for the first time.The following points are drawn from the experiment; (1)the structural configuration shown by P-SV waves is similar to that shown by P waves, which indicates that converted waves can be used to prospect for hydrocarbon or to check the P wave exploration results; (2)both P wave and P-SV wave can also be recorded at the offset which is less than,or equal to the reflector depth,this offset being much smaller than the theoretical distance which was considered to be 1-3 times the reflector depth; (3)the frequency corresponding to the peak amplitude of P-SV wave is lower than that of P wave, but their frequency bandwidths are nearly equal; (4)the velocity of P-SV wave is lower so that its resolution is higher.
