Abstract:In conventional seismic data processing, impulse deconvolution is usually performed both before stack and after stack so as to improve the resolution, Consequently, the resolution is ameliorated indeed, but signal-noise ratio decreased. Theoretically, the expected output of impulse deconvolution is a spike, whose frequency spectrum can be considered as that of white noise, As a matter of fact, a series of processings, such as filtering and stack, etc. must be performed after deconvolution so that the output signal has limited band. Within the limited band, average amplitude spectrum is obtained to smooth and weight the amplitude spectrum of the output signal so that it is whitened to produce a band-limited white series, which fluctuates around a constant value, This method:is called whiting deconvolution, by which stacked seismic data can be processed with both the signalnoise ratio and the resolution improved.
