Abstract:Because many researchers questioned about the conclusion that the seismic resolution is irrelative to S/N ratio presented by the author in the paper "New knowledge of seismic resolution" published in 2005, starting from two basic conceptions-resolution and S/N ratio, the paper discussed the inherence of seismic resolution, found out the root of the problem, further clarified the conclusion that the seismic resolution is not relative to S/N ratio and pointed out the direction of denoise and improving resolution. The study showed that the seismic resolution depends on the characteristics of seismic wavelet, including dominant frequency, bandwidth and phase of wavelet, the seismic resolution is uniquely determined if seismic wavelet is fix; determination of resolvable guidelines provides an objective judgment standard for quantitative description of seismic resolution; improving seismic resolution should start from improve the characteristics of seismic wavelet; the existence of noise may not affect the seismic resolution; looking for optimum wavefield separation approach is fundamental way of denoise processing. Acquiring ideal noise-free record is the only way to maximum improving the resolution.
