Abstract:Among the methods for estimating the minimum phase wavelet from its amplitude spectrum, methods of Hilbert-transform, of homomorphy, of zero-phase wavelet and of relaxation-iteration are analysed, By comparison, results from Hilbert-transform technique seem to be the best. The coefficient of similarity between the estimated minimum phase wavelet and its raw model reaches 0.99762189 when 128 points are used in Fourier transform. The degree of similarity increases as the number of points increase. The difference between the estimated and actual wavelets is analysed through phase relationships and time variations. Letting S denote coefficient of waveform similarity and Q denote the parameter of deconvolution capability, good results can be obtained only when S is no less than 0.95 and Q is almost unity.It is therefore necessary to have the seismic data corrected for phase and earth filtering.
