Abstract:Lithologic index template is usually composed of both real data curve and theoretical- lengthened curve, When the curves are acturally measured,we often encounter the case of two formations with same lithology and same buried depths but different geological ages and different interval velocities, therefore these curves can not represent the same lithology, The real mathematiacl model that represents the lithological curve should be found for the calculation of the elongation on the template so that the elongation would be the lest fitting of the real world. Faust formula considers how geological ages and buried depths affect the interval velocities。Some modifications to the Faust formula are given in this paper, As a result, the modified one not only keeps the advantages of the original formula but also calculates the lithological index template more accurately.
