Abstract:Poststack varying velocity diffraction migration method directly calculates diffraction time using ray velocity (the equivalent of ray velocity),then makes diffraction summation so as to get correct migration of seismic information in non-uniform medium, This paper explains from both theory and practice that the essentials of information migration in the case of non-uniform medium lie in whether the adopted velocity parameter applies to non-uniform medium and if the assumption of velocity configuration approximates the actual conditions of a seismic section rather than whether wave motion method is used or if migration swill be conducted in depth domain. It is also pointed out that varying velocity method using ray velocity is applicable to all diffraction summation type migrations.
