Abstract:In this paper it is founded out that applying AVO theory to field data leads to a great difference with real geological strata, the main reason for the difference lies on the fact that the thin layer tuning effect modified the seismic AVO changing rule. The pre-drilling hydrocarbon detection conclusion for A well gas-bearing sandstone in Liuhua gas area G trap in Fanyu natural gas area in Pearl River Mouth Basin and pro-drilling AVO forward modeling study conclusion do not match with each other, and moreover the AVO seismic responses for water-bearing sandstone and the gas-bearing sandstone in this area are even the same, all the results above indicate that using pre-stack seismic gathers to predict fluid type lead to the wrong conclusion, then finally resulting in B well's drilling to fail.In order to avoid pitfall in application of AVO technique in this area, the seismic amplitude differences which were caused by absorption and attenuation for different frequency range were analyzed and utilized, the studies on frequency division AVO attribute for different frequency bands were conducted for G trap. The results show that frequency division AVO technique can effectively resolve the inconsistence problem for the reservoir AVO well-to-seismic responses, and then technique was applied in predicting favorite geological objects, and finally the correct prediction results were obtained.
