Abstract:In forward simulating a complicated steep structure on a minicomputer, a geological section may be expressed by finite elements, and the configuration of reflectors can be fitted by means of Lagrange's second order interpolation formula. The initial forward model may be designed by using image ray tracing method based on actual data. According to the degree of conformability between the forward simulated section and corresponding actual stacked time section, the configurations of reflectors within the model can be layer by layer modified from shallow to deep until the simulated time section most resembles the corresponding stacked time section. The best forward simulated section is thus the very geological section we seek.
