Abstract:The fact that marked decrease in velocity and density of hydrocarbon bearing sand formation results in increase in reflection coefficients of gas sand-country rock, gas sand-oil sand and gas sand-water bearing sand interfaces constitutes the physical foundation suitable for the formation of bright spot. The physical foundation can be applied to both marine bed and continental sedimentation. However, a little effect has been obtained in detecting bright spot from continental sedimentation data because of the complication formation and structure. In RongDong area, where more detailed seismic work has been done, and where structure configuration is clear and reservoir depth is within 2000 rneters, the existence of bright spot indicating gas bearing formation has been determined, which is of great significance in applying bright spot technique to seismic exploration in this area.
