Abstract:At home, application of available seismic interpretation techniques to exploration and development fields, especially to tap the potential of depleted oilfields, has been achieved significant success, forming a set of relatively matured and effective technical series. The paper introduced the geologic feature and exploration/development history of Pyay oilfield of secondary basin in Prome Bay, Burma, which has had nearly 40 years' development history. By the aid of the idea developed in taping the potential of oilfield at home, we developed the study of comprehensive evaluation of Pyay oilfield, introduced in detail the seismic interpretation techniques effectively used for taping the potential of oilfield, including 3-D fine interpretation, comprehensive velocity analysis and velocity-variable mapping, analysis of low-velocity-anomalous attributes and horizontal prediction of reservoir, among which the 3-D fine interpretation and study of anomalous attributes in deep prospecting series of strata have their characters with referential value to tap the potential of other depleted oilfields having similar properties. It is shown by the effects of applying the seismic interpretation technique to tap the potential of Pyay oilfield fully utilizing geologic and geophysical information, especially the series of strata and anomalous information the predecessors that did not pay more attentions to, is the key of taping the potential of mutual oilfields; the comprehensive application of multiple seismic interpretation techniques are the basis of taping the potential of mutual oilfields; and new oil/gas-bearing blocks and objective series of strata are the potential of taping the potential of mature oilfields.
