Abstract:Frequency-domain combinative electromagnetic wave sounding is a geophyslcal sounding method using alternating combinative electromagnetic waves which have same arnplitude but different frequencles. The different frequency comtents interact resPectiveIy subsurface medium to produce their own electronlagnetic responses, which form compound electromagnetic field. The component field of each electro-magnetic wave has its own background field and geoelectric anomaly field. Thus we can reruove background field influence to highlight geoelectric anomaly by using the frequencyr difference derived from the fact that two kinds of frequency contents in dual-frequcncy compound field have the same amplitude but different frequencies. On the basts of layered earth model. horizontal big circuit field-source and combina-tive wave theory, we developed the principle and method for frequency-domain cofnbinative electromagnetic wave sounding - and analysed its potentlal application in hydrocarbon exploration. The method is charecterized by good noise suppres-sion, highlighted geoelectric anomaly - big sounding depth - wide coverage and con venient use; therefore it will be useful electromagnetic method in discovering the structure where hydrocarbon accuruulates.
