Abstract:The effective sealing overlying-formation of hydrocarbon reservoir must have quite good micro-sealing ability and enough distribution area.The micro-sealing ability is dependent on the shale content,porosity and permeability of an overlying formation;and the lateral distribution area on the thickness.Thus,the shale eontent,porosity,permeability and thickness can be taken as the important evaluation parameters of sealing ability of the overlying mudstone.Generally speaking,the above parameters can be determined in laboratory.But when there are insufficient (or no)core data,the parameters can be derived from log data or seismic data.We detail how to derive the parameters from log data and put forward the corresponding criteria and method for comprehensively evaluating the sealing ability of overlying mudstone.
