Abstract:We advance here a new finite-difference calculation of traveltimes that is better than Vidale's (1988).First-break ray paths between sources to receivers can be derived from known first break times at knots of 2-D grid.Then,curved-ray seismic tomography in any velocity distributions in 2-D medium can be achieved by taking simultaneously iterative reconstruction technique.Theoretical modeling shows that the method is an effective one for tomographic inversion.
