Abstract:Aiming at the source rocks of Shahejie formation in Liaoxi Sag,Liaodong Bay,a quantitative prediction method based on geophysical approaches is proposed.First of all,on the basis of the core geochemical analysis data, total organic carbon (TOC) curve is generated by logging interpretation.Secondly, through petrophysical analysis,a parameter sensitive to TOC is found, and the fitting formula between them is revealed.Thirdly, sensitive parameter volume is obtained by seismic inversion, and then is transferred into TOC data volume with fitting formula. As a result,in accordance with the evaluation indices, the distribution and level of source rocks are predicted, and the quantity of generated hydrocarbon is calculated with geochemistry and basin model parameters. Our application indicates as follows:There is a set of good quality source rocks with more than 2% of TOC and the average thickness of 200m in the area;the predicted hydrocarbon resources are close to 2.6 billion tons; and the relative error between the predicted thickness and actual thickness of source rocks is less than 10%.It is concluded that geophysical approaches can be used to quantitatively evaluate source rocks as a meaningful reference for similar sags.
