Oil Geophysical Prospecting (in Chinese) serves as a primary platform for geophysical prospecting technology exchange and achievement demonstration in China, playing a critical and irreplaceable role in advancing technological progress and equipment development in this field. Currently, BGP (a subsidiary of CNPC) has maintained its position as the global leader in geophysical exploration revenue for multiple consecutive years, with its acquisition technologies and equipment reaching world-leading standards. However, its discourse power and influence are high disproportionate to its actual standing in international geophysical prospecting community. There is an urgent need to transform Oil Geophysical Prospecting into an international technology exchange platform to promptly promote and show China’s new geophysical technologies, methodologies, and equipment, thereby enhancing BGP’s global influence.
To this end, an Editorial Board and Experts Meet-and-Greet Session of JGP (Journal of Geophysical Prospecting) was held during the 2025 EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition on June 4. Chaired by Chen Haolin, the meeting brought together 10 experts and scholars from China and abroad, including: Professor Wang Huazhong (Tongji University), Nyan Htun (Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise), Gilles Lambaré (Viridient) and Professor Chen Guoxin (Zhejiang University). On behalf of the journal, Li Xiangyang presented OGP’s nearly 60-year development journey and achievements. He emphasized the purpose, significance, and future development for launching the journal’s English edition (Journal of Geophysical Prospecting, JGP). Attendees introduced their respective research areas and pledged to wholeheartedly contribute to the growth of JGP.
