On February 10, 2025, the National Press and Publication Administration officially approved the application for Journal of Geophysical Prospecting (English Edition of Oil Geophysical Prospecting，JGP) submitted by BGP Inc., CNPC. JPG is the first English journal in Hebei Province.
As the main platforms for geophysical technology exchange and achievement demonstration in China, OGP and EGP (Equipment for Geophysical Prospecting) play a critical and irreplaceable role in promoting the progress of geophysical technology and driving the development of geophysical equipment. Currently, BGP has maintained its position as the global leader in geophysical exploration revenue for multiple consecutive years, with its acquisition technologies and equipment reaching world-leading standards. However, its discourse power and influence are high disproportionate to its actual standing in international geophysical prospecting community. There is an urgent need to transform OGP into an international technology exchange platform to promptly promote and show China’s new geophysical technologies, methodologies, and equipment, thereby enhancing BGP’s global influence. Therefore, BGP proposed integrating the resources of the two journals, OGP and EGP, to concentrate efforts on building OGP into an high-quality bilingual (Chinese-English) scientific journal with domestic and international influence, achieving comprehensive internationalization of the authors, readers, peer review experts and editorial board, accelerating the publicity and reporting level of China's new geophysical technologies and achievements, and enhancing China's international discourse power, brand image, and influence in geophysical exploration.
