The 87th EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition (EAGE 2026) was held in Aberdeen, United Kingdom, from June 7 to 11. During the event, Journal of Geophysical Prospecting (JGP) convened a meeting of its editorial board members and experts. More than ten renowned experts and scholars from organizations including Shell, Zhejiang University, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), Southwest Petroleum University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Innovation Academy for Precision Measurement Science and Technology (CAS), Sinopec Geophysical Research Institute, and Sinopec Shengli Oilfield participated in the meeting to discuss journal development and future planning.
Chen Haolin, JGP editorial board member and Chief Expert of BGP, chaired the meeting. Attendees first watched a promotional video from the launch ceremony of the inaugural issue of JGP. The video, in an engaging and vivid format, reviewed the development path of geophysical exploration technologies from their early stages through iterative upgrades, and articulated the significance of launching JGP as an English-language journal against the backdrop of global academic exchange—specifically in promoting the dissemination of research achievements in the field, facilitating academic communication between domestic and international scholars, and supporting technological progress in the industry.
Following the video, the attending experts engaged in a discussion regarding the future development of JGP. The atmosphere was engaging and dynamic. Representatives spoke candidly, offering diverse perspectives and exchanging ideas on topics such as academic content development, solicitation and commissioning strategies, brand promotion, and international operations. A number of targeted and practically valuable suggestions were put forward, which further clarified the journal's path forward and pointed the direction for JGP to steadily enhance its academic quality and expand its influence within the industry.
